Newbie needing some advice.

Yes, that manual for the '99 Escort/ZX2 will work fine. Any manual from '98-'03 will be fine. There’s only minor changes from year to year if any.

Also, i have the rear disc swap w/ ABS. The bad thing w/ that is that you can either just get a kit w/ ABS (harder to find cuz they never came on a EGT, but my kit is from a 2001 escort 4door) or you can get the regular non-abs kit and take the abs bulb in your dash out. My problem is i want ABS cuz this won’t always be my car and having it work properly w/ no warning lights coming on will make it be able to sell more. Especially w/ aftermarket parts. So basically im going to buy a pair of sensors for my rear kit and plug em in so i have abs again. As it stands right now, my ABS light is always on.

BTW, that is how you will be able to tell if you’re equipped w/ ABS. Turn your key on and all the features your car has will light up and then turn off when the PCM see’s everything is working properly.

NO ABS here. For some reason I don’t like ABS.

Ok, now I know how to tell, but still, what should I ask Ron to take off the older S/Rs? I’d hate to get this all mailed over, then open the package only to find a missing part.

Hubs, ebrake cables, calipurs, brake lines (i’d actually suggest SS ones), pads and rotors if they’re decent and all the hardware (nuts, bolts, etc). Tell him to make sure you get the bolts that hold the rotors to the hub and all the shims for the pad assembly as well as any springs and retainers. Before you put em on make sure the wheel bearings are good.

Ok, thanks I’ll let him know.

powder…

I gotta question something, maybe you’ll be able to explain it.

I got a 95 Escort GT rear end sitting in my basement right now. Its got what looks like a speed sensor wire coming out of the spindle assembly. So the GT’s did come with ABS then, unless im wrong? Maybe I just got a really rare rear end.

I didnt order the rear end from a junkyard, I took it off myself so I know it was a 95 GT. I had to hire a guy to burn out the rear lateral arm bolts. guy almost set the car on fire.

Well, i could be wrong. I’ve just never heard of EGT’s coming w/ ABS. There is only one sensor that goes into the hub and that’s the ABS sensor. So hell, i guess i’m wrong.

Another quick question. I mentioned that I have a dead ZX2 sitting in my driveway. Knowing that the disks I’m getting off of that junked ZX2 S/R might very well be in bad shape, would the front disks off my broken ZX2 fit? I know it depends on the caliper, but I don’t know if the S/R set uses the same size.

No. The front discs are vented, the back are not. They’re also like a half inch too big or something.

matt’s on a roll, lets give him a round of applause (wow, zx2ms doesn’t have very many smilies.)

thats cause were all depressed cause we are poor!

lol.

Theres this wierd grinding sound comming from the front brakes when ever I press the pedal. Not to mention this squeaking sound, a faint one, when ever the car is rolling foward. I figure that perhaps the caliper or the disk is the cause, as I’ve already tried using soft metal brake pads. The sound went away for a bit, but now is back.

So my plan is to take the caliper and disk off my old ZX2 (which never made the sound ever) in an effort to fix the issue. According to the Chilton’s manual, when I disconnect the brake line I should discard the copper washers. But if there isn’t anything wrong with them, why should I?

cooper corrodes

So does Copper. :stuck_out_tongue:

lol my bad.

fat fingers and typing too fast = fat fingers and typing too fast…

lol!!

Sorry if I’m asking stupid questions. Merry Chirstmas BTW.

Ok, new questions! BTW, should I post a new topic or just keep adding to this one?

Anyways, I’m getting a Volt-Meter guage and an vacum guage. There wasn’t instructions on how to hook them up. Anyone know how?

general rule of thumb…

if you want people to notice you post start a new one in the appropriate topic. Gauges would go under Visual Modifications for example.

the volt meter you would probably have to splice into a 12 volt lead, im not sure though as I have never hooked one up so…
